My Power
We must never compromise who we are, even when staying true to ourselves hurts and has consequences. Although I have lived on Zealand for the past ten years, I am from Vendsyssel to my very bones. I grew up with the expectation that you work and do your best. That has become one of my values. I also grew up with the Law of Jante, a foolish set of social rules that I try to challenge every day. A few years ago, I reached a crossroads that called for a Power woman's decision. I was expected to compromise my professional standards and produce work I could not be proud of. I was told that 70% was good enough, which is difficult when giving 100% is what energises you. At home, I am the mother of three wonderful children, the two eldest of whom have autism. People often expect me to claim compensation for lost earnings so I can focus on creating the best possible life for my children and their additional needs. But that is difficult when work gives me the energy to be the best mother I can be at home. Why should you compromise who you are and what you value to meet other people's expectations? It made me sad and stressed. So I decided to reject the Law of Jante and all those expectations. I started my own business, aiming to earn a Gazelle award within a few years. And I am well on my way. Believe in yourself, find your inner Power woman and do not compromise your values, especially to meet other people's expectations. Trust that you are making the right and best decisions for you!
